The continued flocking of new investors to Catastrophe Bonds. Amid continued volatility in the markets, wealthy individuals and big institutions are making seeking out catastrophe bonds and other investments tied to the probability of Gulf Coast hurricanes, Japanese earthquakes, large snowfalls in Canada and other natural disasters. According to a recent report by Willis Re, Cat Bond issuance could go as high as $6 Billion U.S. in 2011.
A recent survey in the U.K. revealed a call from Europe for more regulatory guidance on life settlements increased transparency on how life settlements work and how risks can be mitigated, revealing an increased interest in the investment space.
The first catastrophe bond to securitize health insurance was launched by Goldman Sachs for sponsor Aetna Life Insurance Co, with a target size of $200 million.
Globally, investors and fund managers continue to prepare for the coming Solvency II Regulatory changes in Europe.
