Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA)

The mission of the Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA) is to promote the development, integrity and reputation of the life settlement industry and to promote a competitive market for the people it serves.

LISA is the nation’s oldest and largest organization representing participants in the Settlement Industry with a current membership of over 134 Companies, doing business in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We were founded in 1995. Our membership consists of Brokers, Providers, Financing Entities, and service providers to the industry. Our mission is to promote the development, integrity and reputation of the life settlement industry and to promote competition in the market we serve.

Since its inception, LISA has been the leader in promoting responsible legislation and regulation in the life settlement industry. Members and staff have contributed conceptual as well as detailed language to laws governing the industry in every regulated state. These efforts have resulted in improved public information and awareness while helping to create a competitive market place that serves consumers a valuable financial service.

European Life Settlement Association (ELSA)

ELSA, the European Life Settlement Association, was established in May 2009. ELSA sets standards for the European life settlement industry and promotes transparency by providing accurate, authoritative information to retail and institutional investors. Membership is open to capital providers, service providers and intermediaries in the life settlement market. ELSA's mission is to promote the development, integrity and reputation of the European life settlement industry and to encourage fair competition within the European market, www.elsa-sls.org 

Anna M. Bailey, our Director of Business Development is active in ELSA’s Steering Committee and was nominated Deputy Chairman of ELSA in February of 2010.

International Secondary Market for Life Insurance (BVZL)

The companies and service providers associated in the Bundesverband Vermögensanlagen im Zweitmarkt Lebensversicherungen (BVZL) e.V. are engaged in the secondary markets for life insurance policies all over the world. Since its establishment in May 2004, the Association has served as uniform representation of economic, legal and political interests and has been in constant dialogue with politicians, opinion leaders, the public and other lobbying groups to further promote the dynamic development of the branch.  BVZL represents many of Europe’s largest traded life policy and life settlement funds.

BVZL's primary objective is developing branch standards for transparency and comparability of the various investment segments including life settlements (British, German and American life insurance policies) and steadily improving the preconditions for successful investment in these asset classes that must be viewed on their own merits.

The stronger interest of market participants, media, and consumers in the secondary market for life insurance policies reflects the growing importance and successful work of the BVZL. The increasing professionalization and institutionalization prove that the markets for life settlement policies have matured.
