ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - Jun 9, 2011) - The Life Insurance Settlement Association ("LISA") is proud to announce the election of a new slate of Officers to the Board of Directors. The new Officers, who were elected during a recent Board meeting, are:

President - Nate Evans, Maple Life Financial, Inc.
Vice President - John McCarroll, Q Capital Strategies, LLC
Secretary - Mike Fasano, President, Fasano Associates
Treasurer - Zohar Elhanani, Legacy Benefits, LLC

The European Life Settlements Association has launched a code of practice designed to increase protection for investors in the expanding asset class of life settlements.

The publication of the code comes at a time of controversy for life settlements, which have come under increasing scrutiny from regulators and media alike as the asset class has spread further into the retail market.

A unit of American International Group has become the first company to successfully securitize a pool of life settlement policies, and has used a portion of the proceeds to pay down its loan to the federal government.

Ever-innovative capital markets are seeing the formation of new instruments – catastrophe bonds and longevity swaps – as actuaries lay off pension liabilities to quants willing to price the longevity risk of pensioners.

There are lots of obscure corners in the alternative investment space. Hedge funds have gone beyond traditional long/short or macro or arbitrage strategies, to make commercial loans. Now there’s a nascent but potentially burgeoning sector. Let’s call it depreciation on declining life expectancies.
